Diagnosed with Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (SCID) or “Bubble Boy Disease” since birth, Ryan Wagner became the first and only person to date to be treated with full-body radiation and chemotherapy for the disease. The treatment was done shortly prior to receiving a significant bone marrow transplant to reset his immune system.
Donna Wagner described her son as very shy and humble while having a very dry, unassuming sense of humor.
He always took everything that was thrown at him no matter what—he never complained and he always just got through all of his challenges.
